Pierre-Yves Corthals calls for BoP changes for Opel by Bahrain

DG Sport Compétition Opel driver Pierre-Yves Corthals hopes the TCR technical committee will revise the Balance of Performance measures for the next race, after the Opel Astras struggled all weekend, carrying the second-highest weight penalty.

The TCR organisers allocated 40kg of weight to the two Astras of Corthals and team-mate Mat’o Homola, just 5kg less than the Audi RS 3 of Stefano Comini, and 10kg more than TCR regulars SEAT and Honda.

Opel struggled to run in the top ten all weekend. Corthals crossed the line in tenth in Race 2 in an incident-packed race, and was promoted to eighth after punctures, but was 13 seconds behind the car ahead of him, WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli.

“The problem is we have a lot of weight on the car,” said Corthals to TouringCarTimes. “It was really difficult to find a set-up. We have two cars and put two different set-ups on the car and we could never find a solution.

“I think the BoP is too much, we’re too heavy. I think the SEAT, Audi and Honda have a good balance, but the Alfa is too high and we’re too low,” he added.

“The balance of the car doesn’t work very well with the weight, as we have too much weight over the front axle, which means use a lot of the front tyres.”

“I hope for Bahrain the BoP will be changed, so we get some reduced weight.”
