Rob Huff joins Volkswagen’s CTCC programme for 2017

2012 World Touring Car Championship drivers’ champion Rob Huff will race for Shanghai VW 333 Racing in this year’s China Touring Car Championship, in addition to his programme with Münnich Motorsport in the WTCC.

Rob Huff took part in two rounds of last year’s CTCC with BAIC as part of his attempts to qualify for the Guia 2.0T Race in Macau, taking the manufacturer’s first victory.

This year, Huff will join the Shanghai VW 333 Racing team as part of their international driver’s programme, the team with which British Touring Car regular Adam Morgan raced last year, which now has technical assistance from former CTCC driver Alex Hui.

“I’ve signed a contract with Volkswagen in China with to do the four rounds that I’m allowed to do,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes.

“I’m sure they’ll be at the end of the year. I’ve been working a lot in China over the last few years. I did some races with BAIC last year, and a very good contact with Alex Hui who’s put the programme together for me. I’m looking forward to doing that.

“What Alex is doing over there has not been done before, and he’s raising the level of motorsport out there and very kindly involved me over the last five years. I met him in Macau when I was world champion. I’m yet to drive the car, they’re being built at the moment, we have a four-day test in April in Zhuhai, so that’s going to be exciting.”
