Nicky Catsburg delighted with “solid” first weekend with Volvo

Polestar Cyan Racing driver Nicky Catsburg leaves Morocco third in the drivers’ standings after a strong first weekend of the season, with his two team-mates Thed Björk and Néstor Girolami also scoring podium results for the Swedish marque.

Catsburg took a pair of fourth place finishes in the day’s two races, which sees the 29-year-old head to Monza just eight points behind Honda’s Norbert Michelisz, and 15 points behind championship leader Tiago Monteiro.

“It was a solid weekend for us, I’m very happy with the outcome,” said Catsburg to TouringCarTimes. “We did great in terms of points, MAC3 was good, our pace was good all over the weekend.”

With Girolami splitting the Hondas in qualifying, the Polestar Cyan Racing team proved they have made a clear step forward during the off-season, which bodes well for the upcoming races, which favour the three-box S60 saloon.

“We said amongst each other that if we were fast in Marrakech we’re going to have a nice season, and I still believe that,” said Catsburg.

“I’m very happy with how this weekend went, also compared to Honda who were very strong here last year, and to (Rob) Huff and Citroën, as it wasn’t as easy for them as expected, so that’s good to see. We just need to continue in the direction we’re going.”
