Jean-Karl Vernay aware he needs to work to sort minor set-up issues

Team WRT’s Jean-Karl Vernay was fastest in this morning’s free practice in Bahrain, but slipped down to fifth in the second afternoon session. Despite ending up being eighth tenths slower than the pace he had set in the morning, the Volkswagen driver is not too worried about his performances.

“It doesn’t mean anything to be fastest in free practice, but this morning was good for my confidence”, admitted the Frenchman. “The track changed a lot between the two sessions, as the rubber from F1, F2 and the Porsches meant there was a lot more grip.”

WRT tried to counterbalance the change in grip levels, but according to Vernay the changes went the wrong way: “We knew the track would change and we tried to change the setup, but maybe we went a little the wrong way. It’s nothing huge, but we need to work to be ready for tomorrow.”
