Jack Goff surprised by practice pace

Jack Goff admitted he was surprised to top the times in second free practice at Donington Park having emerged with the quickest time for Eurotech.

The former WSR man edged out Jake Hill at the head of the times in his Honda Civic Type-R, despite a small error on his quickest lap that prevented him from lapping even faster.

It came after a strong run to second in the opening session of the weekend, with the 26-year-old now hoping to fight for what would be a second straight pole for the Eurotech team.

“I’m surprised to get out of the car and see we are top of the times as I thought the guys said on the radio we were four tenths down,” he said. “It’s great to be leading the way in practice, but it’s qualifying that really matters so we need to see how things go later on.

“We’ve been able to get a good qualifying run in and have also done a longer run during practice, but I think there are some drivers who haven’t shown their hand. I’d expect Matt Neal to be right up there and think there is more to come from the BMWs as well, but I certainly feel we have a chance.”

Eurotech team-mate Jeff Smith has now left Donington Park to fly to Oulton Park for Mini Challenge qualifying before returning to the circuit later this afternoon.
