Double-pole for Opel for Sunday’s sprint races at Spa

The DG Sport Compétition Opel Astra TCR will start from pole position for Sprint Race 1 and Sprint Race 3 on Sunday at Spa-Francorchamps, after both Mat’o Homola and Fred Caprasse were fastest in each of their respective stints in the qualifying long race.

Homola, who had claimed pole position for the long race, produced a best time of 2:32.815 during his stint once his electrical problem had been resolved, but it was co-driver Caprasse who was fastest of all during the race, setting a time of 2:32.779 during the final part of the race.

Caprasse will therefore line-up in the morning’s first sprint race on pole position ahead of the Team WRT SEAT of Sam Dejonghe, assuming his times are permitted to stand after the car was black flagged, with Jean-Karl Vernay third on the grid in the WRT Volkswagen. Slightly out of position on the grid will be Comtoyou Racing’s Stefano Comini in seventh, with the Swiss unable to make much use of the worn tyres on his Audi RS 3 LMS.

Sprint Race 2’s grid is as per Race 1’s result, while for Race 3, the second drivers will take part, with Homola on pole ahead of Audi’s Sheldon van der Linde, with Tom Coronel third in the Boutsen Ginion Racing Honda Civic TCR.

Likewise, it’s WTCC regular Rob Huff who will start out of position and down in seventh for the race, after struggling with a damaged car during the first part of the race following contact at the end of the first lap.

Sprint Race 1 begins at 10:30 CET, with Sprint Race 3 at 16:50 CET.
