Fredrik Ekblom fastest in drying morning test at Knutstorp

Three-time STCC champion and returning Volkswagen driver Fredrik Ekblom was fastest in the morning session of the first official Scandinavian Touring Car Championship test on a drying Knutstorp track with a total of 19 cars on site.

Ekblom lapped the circuit in 1:00.742, giving a first indication of the speed from the TCR cars. The TTA (last year’s outgoing regulations) lap record is 2,6 seconds faster and the S2000 lap record is 0,2 seconds faster, but it should be noted that this session was held on a drying track.

The Kristoffersson Motorsport driver’s lap time was superior to the rest of the field, with Lestrup Racing driver Dennis Strandberg second fastest, eight tenths behind, making it a Volkswagen 1-2.

PWR Racing co-owner Daniel Haglöf was fastest of the SEAT drivers, another 0.021 seconds behind in third, with his team-mate and former Volvo driver Robert Dahlgren in fourth, 0.823 from the best time. Dahlgren topped the list earlier in the session when the track was wet.

Fredrik Blomstedt, team-mate to Ekblom, was fifth fastest in his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR and was the last man within one second to the top time.

Fastest of the Audi drivers was Tobias Brink in sixth position, 1.4 seconds from Ekblom, with Rent A Wreck Racing driver Marcus Annervi fastest of the Honda drivers in seventh position, a mere 0.029 seconds behind Brink.

The test continues at 13:00 CET.
