12 cars entered for TCR Iberian Series season opener

The TCR Iberian Series kicks off this weekend at Estoril in Portugal, with the series a joint venture of the Spanish and Portuguese national championships.

The season opener will have 12 entries. Ten from Portugal and two from Spain. Six different models of car will be on the grid, with the SEAT León TCR the most popular choice, with seven represented. A León Cup Racer and a León TCR DSG will also be present, joined by an Audi RS 3 LMS, a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR and a Kia Cee’d TCR, which makes its racing debut in any TCR series this weekend.

The Spanish series will have a sprint race format for the first time in 2016 after running as a class within the Spanish Endurance Championship last year.

Nine of the ten Portuguese entered cars will have two drivers, as the national championship allows for car sharing with both drivers having to qualify and compete in one race each.

Francisco Mora and Faust Salom, the Portuguese and Spanish champions from last year, will be in the fight for the Iberian title.
