Kris Richard on pole for TCR Germany season opener

Kris Richard scored pole position for Saturday’s race at Oschersleben, host of the first round of the TCR Germany series.

The grid was set with the results of qualifying groups A and B, after an incident among several drivers during the latter session caused a red flag, delaying the schedule and with the race director cancelling Qualifying 2.

Richard, at the wheel of a Honda Civic TCR run by Target Competition, set the fastest lap in his Group A qualifying with a best lap of 1:34.185, ahead of Prosport Performance drivers Sheldon van der Linde and Max Hofer, both with Audi RS 3 LMSs.

“I have great confidence in the car and it showed itself fast in the first free practice session, so now I’m going to take it easy, give it full throttle and have fun. I will try to get a good start and get the tires working quickly” said Kris Richard.

Kris Richard also becomes the points leader, after getting five points for his pole position.

Fastest in Group B qualifying and second on the grid was Steve Kirsch, with a Honda Civic TCR, followed by reigning champion Josh Files and his team-mate at Target Competition Jose Rodrigues.

Florian Thoma, with a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR from the Junior Team Engstler, will be pole position for Race 2, to be held on Sunday.
Several drivers, including Josh Files and Sheldon Van der Linde had lap times deleted for exceeding the track limits.

Race 1 is scheduled for 14:50 CET.
