Attila Tassi angry after last-lap mistake at Spa-Francorchamps

Attila Tassi finished ninth in his M1RA Honda Civic TCR, despite running much higher for the entire race at Spa-Francorchamps. The Hungarian teenager made a mistake at the double left hander and lost two places at the last lap.

“I would have been happy with seventh, but I’m angry with myself”, said the Hungarian to TouringCarTimes. “I made a mistake at the double left hander and I lost two places. The race was quite good, the start was great but I had to brake before the corner as there was a crash in front of me.”

After the start, the Honda driver had severe understeer, which prevented him from challenging the drivers in front, having to defend from the charging field instead and wearing his tyres out.

“After four laps that I had the same problem as yesterday, I had a lot of understeer. I was in the midfield though, not at the front, so it was even more difficult as I had to defend really hard and I destroyed my tyres. I’m looking forward to Monza, at least we will have no ballast.”

Monza should be a friendly track for the Hondas, but Tassi reckons that with two Audis on track it will be difficult for the Japanese cars to be as effective in the past years. However, he concedes that with Stefano Comini having 30 kgs of success ballast, their chances of scoring a good result may increase.

“It could be decent for us, but to be honest I think it’s going to be an Audi track due to the higher top speed. On the other hand, Stefano (Comini) has full ballast in Italy, so we will see.”

Despite his positive results this year and making undoubted progress, the young Hungarian does not feel ready to fight for the championship, saying his goal is the top three in the championship.

“Of course I would love to fight for the championship, but I still have to work a lot to win. I am an optimistic person, but certainly not that much to think I will fight for the title in only my second year of racing. Realistically, I would be happy if I finished the year in the top three.”
