Scott McLaughlin heads new DJR Team Penske 1-2

Scott McLaughlin claimed his first points-awarding Supercars victory of the season in the first race of the weekend at Barbagallo Raceway. The Kiwi headed another DJR Team Penske 1-2, with Fabian Coulthard crossing the line just over one second behind.

The Ford duo headed the field from lights to flag, with Triple Eight Race Engineering driver Jamie Whincup finishing a distant third.

Chaz Mostert held fourth earlier in the race, but had to give way to both Shane van Gisbergen and Prodrive Racing Australia team-mate Mark Winterbottom towards the end of the race.

Winterbottom closed in on van Gisbergen thanks to a different tyre strategy, but could not make his way past.

Mostert eventually finished sixth in his Ford Falcon, with Craig Lowndes and Will Davison rounding off the top eight.

The second race of the weekend starts at 14:15 local time tomorrow.
