Stefano Comini: “The second race could have been better”

Comtoyou Racing’s Stefano Comini followed up his Race 1 win yesterday at Spa with a third-place finish in Race 2, but rues losing time behind new team-mate Frédéric Vervisch at the start which stopped him taking the fight to WRT.

Comini started tenth on the grid for the reversed grid second race in his Audi RS 3 LMS, and made his way through to finish third, losing slight ground in the standings to Jean-Karl Vernay, but pulling away from Attila Tassi and Dusan Borkovic.

“It was a good weekend, but I think the second race could have been better,” said Comini to TouringCarTimes.

“I didn’t reduce the gap too much to Jean-Karl, and in the first three laps I needed to push and overtake as many cars as possible, but the problem was I spent too much time behind my team-mate. I ****** my tyres behind my team-mate, but that’s what it is, it’s racing, and he’s doing his own race – but at the end of the race I had no more tyres and some brake issues.”

“I’m happy for Comtoyou and for Audi, it’s a great result. The Volkswagens were amazing in this second race –at the end of the race, they could keep their tyres live to the end.”

As the highest points scorer this weekend, Comini will carry 30kg of success ballast next weekend at Monza on his Audi RS 3, in addition to the 45kg of Balance of Performance weight on his car.
