Eric Scalvini makes it two-from-two at Adria

Eric Scalvini made it two wins from two, with the second race running in much drier conditions at Adria, with the Honda driver winning Race 2 ahead of Jonathan Giacon’s Opel Astra.

Giacon had a slow start from pole position in his Opel, with Eric Scalvini sailing into the lead in his Honda Civic and with Pit Lane SEAT driver Nicola Baldan straight up to second position.

From fourth on the grid, Plamen Kralev stalled his Audi RS 3 and dropped to the back of the pack.

The top three of Scalvini, Baldan and Giacon quickly started to build a lead over fourth-placed Andrea Argentini, who spent the first part of the race defending against the #47 Honda Civic TCR of Samuel Piccin.

Piccin made a move on lap six and briefly got ahead of the SEAT driver, but slid wide at Cavanella and rejoined right behind him.

On lap seven, Pit Lane Audi driver Max Mugelli’s race ended as he was hit by Plamen Kravel’s Audi RS 3 at Variante Po while fighting for sixth, with both Audis now out of contention.

Scalvini was able to get a small break as Baldan switched from attack to defence, as he fought off Giacon’s Astra TCR during the last half of the race.

A mistake from Baldan on lap 17 allowed Giacon through into second position, with Scalvini now completely unchallenged up front, going on to take the win almost four seconds clear of the battling pair.

Giacon was second with Baldan completing the podium. Argenti finished fourth with Massimiliano Gagliano in fifth position, just under two seconds behind.

There was a significant gap back to Vincenzo Montalbano’s SEAT in sixth, who finished just ahead of Daniele Cappellari’s SEAT.

Samuel Piccin’s early challenge faded, with the Honda driver finishing over a minute behind in eighth, with Nicolo Zin’s SEAT ninth and Massimiliano Chini tenth.

The next round of the TCR Italy championship takes place at Misano on June 4th.
