Roberto Colciago sets the pace in second practice at Monza

M1RA’s Roberto Colciago was fastest in the second free practice session held at Monza this afternoon.

The session was held on a dry track and under sunny skies, despite rain forecast for today, and with warmer track temperatures.

The experienced Italian driver, at the wheel of his Honda Civic Type R TCR, was the only one to break the 2:00 barrier to set a best lap of 1:59.829, marginally faster than this morning’s reference time.

Dusan Borkovic took the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR to second position, 0.224 seconds off the pace. The Craft Bamboo drivers worked on slip streams on the main straight, with Hugo Valente finishing third just ahead of team-mate Pepe Oriola, 0.602 seconds behind Colciago. James Nash could only manage 17th place.

Frédéric Vervisch was the best of the Audi RS 3 LMSs in fifth place, with Mat’o Homola next in the Opel Astra TCR. Gianni Morbidelli was seventh with his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR from WestCoast Racing, with Davit Kajaia taking the second Giulietta to eighth.

Attila Tassi was ninth and 0.938 seconds behind his team mate, with reigning champion Stefano Comini completing the top ten in the second Audi.

Standings leader Jean-Karl Vernay was 14th at the wheel of his Volkswagen from Team WRT, with team-mate and TCR International debutant Jaap van Lagen 16th after leading in the early stages of the session.

Stian Paulsen came at the end of his outlap with problems in the rear left suspension of his SEAT Leon TCR, being unable to rejoin the session.

Qualifying is scheduled for 10:45 CET on Saturday morning.
