Gordon Shedden secures unexpected advantage at Oulton Park

Gordon Shedden admitted it had been a ‘bizarre’ weekend after he moved into the head of the BTCC standings at Oulton Park.

Shedden went into the weekend giving chase to Speedworks’ Tom Ingram, but produced three strong races to emerge from the fourth meeting of the season having established a 16 point lead over Rob Collard.

Ingram meanwhile slipped to third in the standings having scored just a single point in race three for posting the fastest lap.

Key to Shedden’s success was a second victory of the year in race three as he headed a Honda 1-2 to finish the weekend, and he admitted to being surprised as how strong the Dynamics-run outfit had been on track.

“It’s been bizarre really as we didn’t expect to be so strong,” he said. “Qualifying was tough but we made bloody good job of it and it set us up for race day. Whilst it might not have looked spectacular, we worked bloody hard throughout today and the soft tyre made a big difference in the final race and gave us the advantage.

“The incident with Josh was unfortunate but not intentional and when we were then chasing Andrew, I made a good move at Cascades – even if it wasn’t something I planned. He jumped on the brakes and I took to the inside to avoid hitting him up the arse, we went side-by-side and it all worked.

“As a team it’s been a good weekend. Matt has shown strong pace throughout and we’ve worked well together to put good points on the board.”
