Aschenbach takes second career win at Mosport

Lawson Aschenbach stopped the K-PAX Racing Volvo C30 of Aaron Povoledo from taking a second consecutive victory in the SCCA World Challenge Touring class, taking the win in Race One at Mosport.

Aaron Povoledo had taken the class pole position and held the lead in class ahead of Anthony Rapone, the reigning Canadian Touring Car ‘Touring Class’ champion making his debut this weekend in his title winning Honda Civic Si, with Aschenbach third in the HPD-developed C360R Civic.

A crash for Alex Udell’s GTS class Chevrolet Camaro on lap nine brought out the safety car with the wall at Turn 3 having to be repaired. The race restarted nine laps later, with Aschenbach quickly making progress, passing Rapone and then Povoledo for the lead on lap 22 and held on to take his second win of the season.

Anthony Rapone also dispatched Povoledo to finish second, with the Volvo driver demoted to third. Local driver Gary Kwok finished fourth, with Brett Sandberg, now also at C360R finishing in fifth position.

The second race of the weekend for the Pirelli World Challenge series takes place at 13:45 EST tomorrow.
