Aschenbach wins again at Mosport
Lawson Aschenbach has won race two at Mosport as the race finished under caution after a late race incident involving Volkswagen driver Tristan Herbert.
Aaron Povoledo had started again from the class pole position, but the K-PAX Racing Volvo C30 driver was deemed to have jumped the start, which gave Tristan Herbert the lead in the Touring class on lap three.
Ray Mason in the TLM Racing Honda Civic Si was also served with a stop-go penalty, as was Can-Saf Motorsports driver Kurt Langeveldt in the Mazda RX-8.
After the penalties, Brimtek Motorsports driver Tristan Herbert led ahead of the two Compass360 Racing Hondas of Lawson Aschenbach and Brett Sandberg.
On lap 10, Aschenbach passed Herbert for the class lead, leaving the VW Golf to fight off the Civics of Sandberg and Anthony Rapone.
It took 11 laps before Sandberg moved up to second place ahead of Herbert, with Herbert going off on oil in turn six one lap later as well as Ron Zitsa’s VW Jetta and the GTS cars of Brad Adams and Ernie Jakubowski.
The clean-up operation extended past the races 50 minute length, and so finished under caution with Aschenbach taking the win with Anthony Rapone now up into second and Brett Sandberg third.
The series now takes a two and a half month break, resuming at Mid-Ohio in August, where Compass360 Racing’s Lawson Aschenbach will head as the championship leader.
