Rob Huff still buoyant after tough weekend

Rob Huff slipped back in the standings after a podium-less weekend, but wasn’t too disheartened with such a long way to go in the Championship and tracks coming up which he believes he’ll be more suited to.

Rob Huff qualified fifth for the first race with the new improved SEATs of Gabriele Tarquini and Pepe Oriola further up ahead on the grid, though Huff was quick to pass Oriola at the start and secure fourth position.

In race two, the 32-year-old Briton started sixth and finished in the same position, passing Dudukalo’s struggling SEAT at the start but also lost a position by the fast-starting BMW of Tom Coronel on the rear-wheel drive favouring standing start.

“If that’s my worst one I’ll be happy,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes. “That’s the hardest I’ve ever had to fight for 21 points, but we’re still up there in the Championship…yes, we’ve dropped from second to fourth, but there’s only four points up to second place.”

“I think it’s a positive weekend really, we’re only four races in, we’ve got another twenty left. There’s some nice circuits that are going to suit me hopefully.

On Lap 9, Rob Huff along with many others came across some fluid on the track which caused drivers to go the track and lose a few positions.

“It was (James) Nash’s oil water I think as it had gone after one lap,” said Huff. “I was on it as I came into Turn 10 I think it was, and I was completely backwards, just nailed the throttle and kept it lit and expected Yvan to be beside me and I looked in my rear-view mirror and he was twice as far off the track as I was.”

The next round of the Championship is around the streets of Marrakech on April 15th, which Rob Huff states is one of his favourite circuits, having finished on the podium in every race including winning the inaugural event in 2009, with the exception of the second race of 2010 – when he crashed out after contact with Fredy Barth’s SEAT at the chaotic start when Norbert Michelisz stalled on the front row.
