Tomas Engström had “a magical weekend” at Östersund

Honda driver Tomas Engström took a big step towards the top of the championship after the STCC races at Östersund where he claimed both pole positions and two victories.
“It has been a magical weekend, to take a double pole position and above all win both races,” said Engström.

Engström lead the first race from lights to flag and was on his own. The second race was a bit tougher.
“I made a mistake in the first corner, so I got a bad exit which enabled Kristoffersson to get closer and get past in the following corner. Unfortunately Rydell was able to get past as well by then,” said Engström.

The Honda driver’s luck changed quickly as Rickard Rydell was pushed off track by Johan Kristoffersson who then got a penalty lane run. Engström sailed past to take his third victory of 2012.
“It was amazing to win at Östersund, it has been an amazing weekend where we despite some problems managed to score max,” said Engström.

Next race for Engström and the STCC is Jyllandsringen in Denmark where Engström hopes to continue to gain on championship leader Kristoffersson and Rydell.
“We have caught the top, so now we are going for the title,” said Engström.
