Augusto Farfus leads Nürburgring FP2 as Mercedes struggle
Augusto Farfus was fastest in the final practice session ahead of today’s qualifying at the Nürburgring in his BMW Team RBM M3 DTM. The Brazilian was just over two-tenths of a second faster than Audi’s Edoardo Mortara, whilst Mercedes were at the bottom of the order.
Mortara led the way most of the session, but a late improvement from the 28-year-old Farfus put the BMW driver on top. Reigning champion Martin Tomczyk was third fastest in his BMW with Timo Scheider’s Audi fourth.
The order continued with Mike Rockenfeller’s Audi fifth, Andy Priaulx’s BMW sixth, Bruno Spengler’s BMW seventh, Filipe Albuquerque’s Audi eighth, Miguel Molina’s Audi ninth, Dirk Werner’s BMW tenth, Joey Hand’s BMW 11th and Rahel Frey 12th and Mattias Ekström 13th for Audi.
Jamie Green was the fastest of the Mercedes-Benz drivers down in 14th, 0.751 seconds slower than Farfus’s time. The top 17 cars were all within a second of Farfus, but eight of the last nine positions were occupied by Mercedes, with Adrian Tambay the only exception down in 22nd in his Audi A5.
Qualifying gets underway at 13:40 CET.
