Hard blow on title hopes for Engström in Denmark

Tomas Engström looked set to be a part of the STCC title fight after his double victory at Östersund, something that was changed to a double retirement at Jyllandsringen and a damaged Honda Civic after a roll in race two.
“This was a weekend that we would much rather forget as soon as possible,” said Engström.

The Honda driver collided with championship leader Johan Kristoffersson in the first corner of the first race, a collision which broke the front left suspension.
“I had a really good start, but Kristoffersson went wide and hit my car so bad that a part of the front suspension broke,” said Engström.

The second race saw Engström starting from the back of the grid after lengthy repairs. Engström fought with Johan Stureson in the race, a fight which ended in the gravel trap with both drivers retiring and Engström rolling.
“I’m not sure what happened. Johan Stureson and I had a hard fight in to corner four. We made contact and then there was just a loud bang at the right rear wheel. I don’t even know who hit me there, but I turned around in to the gravel and rolled,” said Engström.

The double-zero means that Engström drops to fourth in the championship and is currently 57 points behind the championship lead with just two races to go.
“This hasn’t made the end of the season easier, we’ll have to fight even harder to reach the top guys,” said Engström.
