Volkswagen protest race one result – protest rejected

Volkswagen Team Biogas have protested the result of the first race at Knutstorp, believing that unfair contact was made between their driver Johan Kristoffersson and Chevrolet’s Michel Nykjaer, but the protest has been rejected by the STCC stewards.

Michel Nykjaer had made contact going into the first corner with Johan Kristoffersson’s Volkswagen Scirocco, which resulted in a slide and damage to the right-rear of the 23-year-old’s car.

Kristoffersson was able to continue and finished fourth, whilst Nykjaer was able to go on to take his fifth win of the year.

Kristoffersson avoided direct comment on the incident after the race, beyond stating that he “thought I was completely around but I wasn’t.”

The Volkswagen team filed a protest with the stewards after the race, but the protest was rejected with the race result standing.

Reflecting on the incident, Volkswagen Team Biogas Team Principal Tommy Kristoffersson said to TouringCarTimes:
“We are not that happy with that of course, because Johan felt that he was clearly in front and he turned in and Michel came over the grass all four wheels out of the track and into the side.”
