Fourth straight win for López at San Martín
José María Lopez has taken his fourth consecutive race victory for the PSG16 Team at San Martín and leaps to the lead of the Super TC 2000 drivers’ championship.
Lopéz worked his way forward in a strategy intense race, with the introduction of tyre stops with soft and hard option tyres from Pirelli at the eighth round of the season.
Although the two Toyota Team Argentina Corollas of Mariano Werner and Matías Rossi started on the front row, López was able to overhaul them in his Ford Focus, passing Rossi for the lead on lap 10.
A fading Werner lost out to López’s PSG16 team-mate Jorge Trebbiani for the final spot on the podium late in the race, with Emiliano Spataro also passing the Toyota driver in his Renault Fluence to take fourth.
Facundo Ardusso wound up as the top placed Peugeot Cobra Team driver in seventh, whilst it was a bad race for Honda with Ricardo Risatti the best placed in 11th and even worse for Chevrolet, with Agustín Canapino crossing the line in a lowly 15th.
López’s victory catapults him from third to the lead of the drivers’ standings, whilst Werner’s fifth is enough to keep him in second place, as Peugeot’s Néstor Girolami dropped from first to third after retiring on lap 20.
The next round of the Super TC 2000 Championship is at Río Cuarto on 30th September.
