Two Chevrolet drivers with STCC title ambitions
Chevrolet drivers Rickard Rydell and Michel Nykjaer heads to the final STCC race of 2012 with the ambition to clinch the title. Reigning champion Rydell heads the standings on 234 points, just nine points ahead of Nykjaer in second.
“I have the chance to win my second straight STCC title in front of my family and friends, the interest for the race is huge,” said Rydell.
“I am of course heading to Stockholm with the goal to win the title, but I have one of the fastest touring car drivers in the world ahead of me in the standings and a lot will be decided in the qualifying on Friday,” said Nykjaer.
With the small and twisty Solvalla circuit, temporarily constructed on the Solvalla trotting track, the drivers predict that the qualifying session will be more important than ever.
“In terms of sporting values, I think that the qualifying session is going to be decisive. The track is tight and hard to overtake on, although there are a couple of places where you possibly could try,” said Rydell.
The special characteristics of the Solvalla track along with the internal title fight between the two Chevrolet drivers promises for drama on Saturday.
“The track seems to be very tight, which should suit me well. I have won on tracks with similar characteristics and I am more than ready for a final fight,” said Nykjaer.
