Kristoffersson leads Audi 1-2-3 in Vallelunga qualifying

Audi dominated the qualifying session in Vallelunga. The trio was led by Johan Kristoffersson, who was three tenths quicker than Gianni Morbidelli. Thomas Schöffler made it an Audi 1-2-3 by setting a time which was only 0.025s faster than Vitantonio Liuzzi’s time in fourth.

Thomas Biagi was the best-placed BMW in fifth, exactly two tenths behind the championship leader. Francesco Sini and Max Mugelli were really close, with just one hundredth separating the two.

Giovanni Berton, who makes his Superstars Series debut replacing Stefano Gabellini at Team Dinamic, was an impressive eighth ahead of Camilo Zurcher and the much-awaited Giancarlo Fisichella, who never went beyond seventh place in all sessions.

Nico Caldarola’s all-new Mercedes C63 AMG Coupè came a good eleventh, the Italian driver making a small mistake at high speed just on the exit of the last corner, the fast Roma, but he was able to control his car and stay on track.

Gianni Morbidelli, who had led the first Free Practice session earlier this morning, has paid the price of a broken driveshaft which forced him to sit out of the entire second session, losing valuable tracktime.

Next up for the Superstars Series is the first race, which will be held in at 11.15 CET tomorrow.
