Japanese Touring Car Championship

Postby SpeedKing » Fri Jul 30, 2010 6:01 pm

It was announced that a new championship based on new WTCC rules from 2012:

The championship will be presented at 2011 WTCC Race of Japan.

By 2014 they plan to make an Asian championship together with CTCC.

I think that indicates that a few Japanese car makers will surely be in WTCC. At least I hope so.

Translation

Japan will have a touring car Championship (JTCC) according to the new regulations of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for 2012. The new competition will be officially presented on the occasion of the Japanese race of the WTCC in 2011, with the calendar to be composed of six tests, one in China. JTCC's race in China will be made in conjunction with the local League. The Organization of the competition shall Concorde Management Inc. and Asatsu-DK Inc., and the plan together to organize a Championship Asian saloon according to FIA regulations in 2014.

I'm guessing Mazda could be one manufacturer. And with the WRC going S2000 from next year and no more Group N cars, I like to think we could see Mitsubishi Evo's in touring cars before long.

I think all the manufacturers mentioned here: http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=2878 will compete. Maybe some non-Japanese as well.

With reference from this link: http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=5067

There's still something worths me to doubt:
1) Being a Chinese I'm not so optimistic about the combination of CTCC and JTCC, despite of historical issues, (their uneasy relationship after World War II) the CTCC could seek alliance with HK's and Macau's Touring Car Championships first, while JTCC maybe easier to co-operate first with Korean TCC (aka The Super 2000 Class of Korean CJ Super Race Series).
2) The Asian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) is already exists, even though a downgrade to "Series" and with a lean suvival during this year (partly combined with Macau's TCC). The graduation of joint CTCC & JTCC towards ATCC will be possible with the agreement of AFOS and Mr. Danny Stancy Chau, the regular race-driver and underlying organizer of the present ATCC(S).
