Jason Plato has indicated he plans to return to the BTCC in 2010, most likely with RML with the Cruze - but also possibly with Volvo.
With Vauxhall now gone, the conflict of interest with General Motors (who still part own Vauxhall) is now removed, meaning a manufacturer backed assault on the BTCC could be entirely sensible with the new Cruze just released in the UK.
However Jason appears to be hopeful of a 2010 possibility with Volvo - with rumours surfacing of a possible return to the BTCC for the first time since 1999.
Plato said of the possibility, speaking to Crash.net:
“However, if Volvo do come to the BTCC, then I have first option on the number one seat there, so there is a lot going on. To come off the last race of the year with three wins, I couldn't have done more to put myself in a plum seat for next year.”
It would be expected that the Polestar prepared C30 chassis would be the most likely basis of a touring car challenge for the marque - with the BTCC looking very appealing at the moment to manufacturers with the withdrawal of Vauxhall.
The main problem is the competition even by privateers is very tough, with the Team RAC run BMW's, and Team Dynamics Honda Civic's proving to be very strong adversaries to manufacturer backed (or prepared) cars such as the Vectra and Lacetti.
