Glew won eleven of the twenty races, including the opening five events of the season, as he wrapped up the title with a round to spare, beating nearest rival Alex MacDowell by 116 points. Although his margin of victory would have been even larger without the dropped scores rule, thanks to amazingly consistent finishing record, in a series known for its door-to-door racing.

Now the 25-year-old from Lincolnshire is targeting graduating to the BTCC for next season, following in the footsteps of recent champions Tom Onslow-Cole and Jonathan Adam, but admits it’s not going to be an easy move to make.

“It is always going to be difficult to break into BTCC, as it is quite a big step, budget wise, but I’m sure that my performance this year in Clio's, have proven that I’m going to be there or thereabouts pace wise.

“I’m really looking forward to jumping in the seat and giving my all in a pre-season test, and proving myself to the teams that I mean business!"

Glew’s team were unable to disclose which BTCC teams they were talking to, but confirmed that they had had meetings with several of the top teams.

Despite having competed in the Clio Cup for the past two seasons (Glew came third in 2008), the former Formula BMW UK runner up does have experience of racing more powerful machinery, having driven a Porsche for RPM and Motorbase during the 2006 British GT Championship, as well as campaigning a 750bhp Subaru Impreza to the 2007 Time Attack series title, in which he won every round, before going on to win further events in each of the past two years.

As soon as the identity of the team that Glew will test for is known, Touring Car Times will bring you the news.
