Gary Paffett is going to try and snatch the title from reigning champion Timo Scheider. Despite a seven point gap, the Mercedes driver is confident.
"I won from eighth on the grid last time, and before that, from seventh. Now I need to make up a seven-point deficit in a single race. And that’s exactly what I’ll be going all out for," said Paffett.
One disadvantage for the Mercedes driver is the extra penalty weight of 10 kilos compared to the rival Audi's, something Paffett says is going to cost him two tenths per lap.
"I won’t be wasting any time on Saturday moping about our handicap weight – even though it costs us around two-tenths of a second per lap," said Paffett.
But there is no doubt that Paffett is ready for the challenge at Hockenheim on sunday.
"I’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain, so for that reason, I’m all fired up for Hockenheim," said Paffett.
