Pernía punished for contact with title rival Werner

Equipo Petrobrás driver Leonel Pernía was hit with a 30 second penalty after the race on Sunday, which dropped the Honda driver to 17th in the final classification and out of second place in the standings.

Pernía and Mariano Werner of Toyota Team Argentina (TTA) had two contacts on lap 18, the first saw Werner able to rejoin ahead of the Honda, but lost the position after the second contact whilst the two were battling for what was then sixth place.

Pernía’s penalty means Werner is now classified as the runner up in the standings to Toyota team-mate Matías Rossi in a strong season for the Japanese marque in the Argentinean TC 2000 Championship.

Toyota Team Argentina also won the teams’ championship from Equipo Fiat Oil Combustibles, with Toyota also coming ahead of Fiat and Honda in the manufacturers’ championship.
