José María López to race for Wiechers-Sport at Río Hondo

Three-time (Super) TC 2000 champion José María ‘Pechito’ López will join the Wiechers-Sport BMW team at next weekend’s round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship at Termas de Río Hondo, filling in for Fredy Barth who has other commitments.

The 30-year-old will become the second Argentinian driver to compete in the WTCC after Leonel Pernía raced for Nika Racing at Monza in the 2010 season.

López currently sits in fifth position in this year’s Super TC 2000 Championship driving for the Equipo Petronas Fiat squad.
