Dušan Borković to step up to the WTCC in 2014

Serbian driver Dušan Borković will join the grid of the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship, driving a SEAT León WTCC run by the NIS Petrol Racing team in the Championship’s second tier for current specification cars.

The 29-year-old finished third in the S2000 classification of this year’s FIA European Touring Car Cup, driving a SEAT León TFSI for the first three rounds of the Cup, winning the first race at the Salzburgring, before switching to a Chevrolet Cruze LT for the final two meetings of the season.

“It was not easy to make a decision, I’m glad it turned out this way,” said Borković. “The fact that I ride with the best names in motorsport, and that I’m able to drive a World Championship is the fulfilment of a number of my professional goals.”

Borković will compete in the second tier of the Championship which is open to cars conforming to the 2011 variation of Super 2000, which will be renamed to TC2 next season, while Lada, Honda, Citroën and RML are all developing new cars to compete in what will be the faster and more powerful TC1 class next season.
