20 cars entered for ETCC season opener in Hungary

20 cars have been entered for the first round of the 2015 FIA European Touring Car Cup at the Hungaroring, with 17 full-season entries for the six-event series this year.

The 2015 season gets underway in support of the third round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, joining them again at the Slovakiaring and at Paul Ricard, before featuring three standalone races later in the year at Brno, Zolder & Pergusa.

The ETCC again features a four class structure, with four cars entered in the TC2T class for Super 2000 cars with 1.6 turbocharged engines, as were used in the WTCC between 2011-2012, four cars in the TC2 class for the previous generation normally aspirated Super 2000 cars, five in the all-Ford Fiesta filled Super 1600 class, with seven new SEAT León Cup Racers in the rejuvenated Single-Make Trophy class.

Last year’s S1600 class champion Gilles Bruckner is the only driver to return to defend his title in the same class, while last year’s TC2 class champion Petr Fulín has moved across to the Single-Make Trophy to battle for the all-SEAT class’s title.

The TC2T class is dominated by Turkish entries, with Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport fielding a BMW 320 TC for Aytac Biter, and new to the ETCC Ülkü Motorsport fielding two more BMWs, with just the Bavarian marque representing the TC2T class.

Rikli Motorsport will field their two Honda Civic FD2s in TC2, making it a Honda vs. BMW affair.

As announced earlier today, Serbian driver Dusan Borkovic has made a last minute switch from the WTCC to the ETCC, returning with the NIS Petrol Racing Team behind the wheel of a SEAT León Cup Racer, alongside returning competitors Andreas Pfister, Ronny Jost and Mat’o Homola.
