Tomas Engström to replace Lorenzo Veglia in Sochi ahead of full TCR Asia season

Former Swedish Touring Car Championship Tomas Engström will join Liqui Moly Team Engstler for the Race of Russia in Sochi, as a preparation for the upcoming TCR Asia season, which starts on August, 16th at Zuhai, China.

The Swede, who also enjoyed spells in the European and World Touring Car Championship, will be at the wheel of the SEAT León Racer left vacant by Lorenzo Veglia, who is busy with his university commitments.

“From the first time I heard about the TCR regulation I knew it would be a success and I was looking to be part of it in some way,” said Engström. “When Liqui Moly Team Engstler gave me this opportunity I was very happy. To take part in the TCR International Series with such an experienced and well-known team as Liqui Moly Team Engstler is an honour. For me the TCR Asia is a perfect fit and a new experience with new tracks and new conditions gives me the challenge I need to be on top.”

Team manager Kurt Treml said: “We are very happy to have Tomas in our team and with his experience we will be sure to fight for podiums. As a preparation for the TCR Asia Series Tomas Engström will race in the TCR International series at Sochi, to learn the car and get familiar with the team. We have to thank Liqui Moly and Remus exhaust systems and also SECO to realise also the TCR Asia with two cars.”

Liqui Moly Team Engstler are waiting for the new Volkswagen Golf TCR to be delivered as soon as possible, as the team continue to race with the León Racer.
