Ant Whorton-Eales chasing strong points from top ten slot

Ant Whorton-Eales says he is keen to bring home strong points on race day after qualifying inside the top ten for the first time in his BTCC career at Silverstone.

The AmDTuning.com driver put his Audi S3 in seventh spot on the grid in a frenetic qualifying session at the Northamptonshire circuit, which also marked the best qualifying result for the car to date.

The reigning Clio Cup champion admitted that he had been “right on the edge” in setting the time, and said that he was pleased that things had finally fallen into place to put him firmly in the mix for race day.

“I’m not sure how I did the lap to be honest,” he said. “There was a lot of traffic and I managed to get a run with some of the quick guys and got pulled along by them. There were a few BMWs and one of the Ford, and they punched a hole in the air for; I don’t think we could have done that time on our own.

“I was really on the edge with the car but I think that is what you need to do in qualifying. I’ve watched people like Jack Goff and you can see that he is right on the limit in qualifying to get the time from the car, so that’s what I’ve had to do. You have to really push the car to get the time and just hang on to an extent; there is no way to just take it easy and hope the time will come.

“Hopefully now we can push for some top ten results on race day, and we’ve put ourselves in the best position to fight for them.”
