Andy Yan extends championship lead with Race 1 victory at Ningbo

Andy Yan won the opening race of the weekend at Ningbo International Speedpark, winning by nearly 15 seconds in his NewFaster Audi RS 3 LMS ahead of Teamwork’s Alex Fung and his Audi team-mate Huang Chu Han.

Yan launched away from pole into the lead, while team-mate Huang was able to grab second from Fung’s Volkswagen on the first lap.

Alex Hui had started third on the grid, but dropped to last with a poor start and was having to work his way back through the order in his Teamwork Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

While Yan continued to pull away from team-mate Huang, Fung was right on the Audi’s tail all along, and was able to work his way past on lap six to reclaim second position, but had no chance to do anything about Yan’s lead.

Hui’s recovery drive also saw him work his way back to up fourth, with his last pass on Wang Hao’s Volkswagen taking place on lap six.

Yan went on to win the race by 14.2 seconds in his Audi RS 3, and extends his lead of the championship to 16 points over team-mate Huang, with Alex Hui still third, now 27 points behind.

Yan also starts from pole for Race 2, which starts at 14:25 CST (7:25 CET).
