Andy Yan completes a perfect weekend with victory in Race 3 at Ningbo

NewFaster Team driver Andy Yan has won the third race of the weekend at the Ningbo International Speedpark and extended his lead of the championship to 48 points over team-mate Huang Chu Han.

Yan started from pole position in his Audi RS 3 LMS, with Sunny Wong alongside in the Teamwork Volkswagen, with both making a good start and beginning to pull away from the pack behind, with Lin Li up to third in the Leo109 Racing Volkswagen.

Yan was defending during the first stint ahead of Wong’s Volkswagen, with his Hong Kong rival unable to find a way past, with both opting to pit on the same lap during the mandatory pit stop window.

With Yan racing alone, he remained in the car, while Wong handed over the Golf GTI TCR to co-driver Alex Fung during the stop.

Wong/Fung’s team-mate and Teamwork’s leading championship competitor Alex Hui had been working his way forward, but made contact with the Leo109 Volkswagen of Lin Li and suffered a puncture, and was later given a drive-through penalty, further damaging his progress.

This allowed Huang Chu Han up to third in the classification, while Lo Kai Bong was now up to fourth in the HE Racing Volkswagen.

“It was great racing today with Sunny Wong,” said Yan. “I had to concentrate a lot because our lap times were almost identical and I knew any mistake I made would allow Sunny to make a passing move. We also had no room for error during the pit stop. I’d like to say a big thank you to all my team members and our sponsors.”

Yan now leads the championship by 48 points over team-mate Huang, with Hui 69 points behind heading to the final round of the championship in Guangdong on December 31st, following an invitational race visit to Macau next month.
