New control tyre to be introduced for 2018 Supercars

The Supercars championship organisation is planning to introduce a new Dunlop control tyre for 2018, or rather reverting back to the one used in 2016 with some modifications.

A new tyre was introduced for 2017 that was faster but also more prone to failures, with a number of accidents leading to the Supercars organisation bringing back the 2016-specification tyre for the races at Bathurst and Pukekohe.

“Migrating the 2016 tyre and technology with small upgrades into 2018 will ensure a fantastic season ahead,” said James Warburton, Supercars CEO.

“Dunlop continues to be an outstanding Supercars partner and has played a big part in making the championship as close as it’s ever been.”

One race remains of the 2017 season with the Newcastle season finale while the 2018 season will be kicked off with the pre-season test at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The test is not compulsory but will count toward the allocation of three test days for all teams no matter of attendance.
