Red Bull Racing reveal 2018 Commodore colours

The Red Bull Holden Racing team has officially revealed the new Commodore ZB that it will use for the 2018 Supercars season.

The new hatchback model will be used by each of the Holden teams this year, with the Triple Eight –run squad having been responsible for the development of the car.

It will be the Commodore manufactured outside Australia to race in the series, and the first build on the new Gen2 Platform.

Although the car had been seen in testing on the Gold Coast back in September, a launch held on a floating barge at Farm Cove in Sydney saw the Commodore modelling the revised colours that will used by Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen during the year ahead.

“In my world, I consider today a very big deal,” Whincup said. “We’re not only showing our supporters our 2018 livery, we’re unveiling the new-look, next-generation Commodore supercar. It’s pretty special to be able to do that in this incredible setting.

“We’ve decided to really change it up with the colour scheme this year, which looks awesome on the new body shape. We’re obviously hoping it’s a rocket, but I guess we’ll find out in Adelaide in just a few weeks’ time.”

Van Gisbergen meanwhile said he couldn’t wait to get started with the new car as he seeks to try and reclaim the title he lost to Whincup last year.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back racing this year, especially with the brand new body shell on the 2018 Commodore,” he said. “The guys and girls at Triple Eight have been working crazy hard to get our cars ready for the season, so hopefully we can do them and the Commodore nameplate proud this year.

“Last year’s championship obviously didn’t go to plan for me with too many mistakes, so I’ll be aiming to get back up there this season and hopefully we have two Red Bull Holdens fighting it out for the title at Newcastle.”

Lee Holdsworth’s Preston Hire Racing livery was the first to be revealed for the new ZB last week.
