Howard Fuller hopes more will join after successful showcase at Silverstone

Sean Walkinshaw Racing’s Howard Fuller hopes that more drivers and teams will make the move to join the TCR UK series’ ranks after a successful launch event for the championship at Silverstone, with 13 cars taking to the track this weekend.

Fuller qualified his Honda Civic Type R FK2 TCR third for the first race, and converted that into a fifth and fourth place finish in the day’s two races, coming away from the weekend fourth in the drivers’ standings.

“I’ve always been a better race than a qualifier, so to be that far up the grid really put us in a better position,” said Fuller to TouringCarTimes.

“Race 1 was good, getting it off the line was completely new to us, we’d had no practice starts, or any running in the dry, and fought our way back to where we started, and then in Race 2, I had a better start.

“(The car’s got an) awesome pedigree, with Honda and Honda in motor racing, but the car is new to us; we’re not new to racing but the car is new for us, and in testing the car had a lot of different drivers in it so feedback has been pretty minimal. We’ve got a lot of data and footage to go through, so we’ve been very tactical and we’re not taking massive jumps.”

Fuller hopes that now more drivers will look to join the series now that onlookers have seen the finished product racing in the UK.

“TCR have been really put up to it and have delivered a really strong package,” said Fuller. “As soon as we got to the grid, there job was done and it was up to us drivers to do our jobs and show the product. I know a lot of people that want to do this but were just waiting, but hopefully what they’ve seen over the weekend will encourage other drivers to just come and do it.”
