Kai Jordan will drive season start in borrowed car due to a ship collision

Kai Jordan will be behind the wheel of a borrowed Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR in the 2018 TCR Germany season start this weekend due to a ship collision.

Team Engstler took part in the TCR Middle East races with Jordan’s car and as it was transported back to Europe, the container ship carrying it collided with another ship in the port of Karachi.

A total of 21 containers went overboard, not including the race car of Team Engstler. But the collision meant that the containers of the team are heavily delayed and Jordan will drive at least the first three TCR Germany races in a borrowed car.

”The story about Jordan’s race car almost sounds like a thriller movie,” said Kurt Treml, sporting director of Team Engstler.

”The containers will come to Europe with the next scheduled container ship, but it is not clear when this will happen.”

Team Engstler will field five cars for the 2018 TCR Germany season with drivers Luca Engstler, Théo Coicaud, Florian Thoma and Niko Kankkunen, alongside Jordan.
