Mark Wilkins beats Ryan Eversley to victory in Virginia

Hyundai driver Mark Wilkins claimed victory in the second race of the World Challenge Touring Car class at Virginia International Raceway ahead of race one winner and Honda driver Ryan Eversley.

Wilkins’ Bryan Herta Autosport team-mate Michael Lewis started from pole position and headed the field for the first part of the race. But a technical issue saw him pull into the pits for retirement, just as Wilkins did in the first race.

This handed the lead to Wilkins who won the race by close to eight seconds, his second victory of the year. Eversley of RealTime Racing was involved in the top fight on the opening lap but made a mistake and went off track, losing several positions, forcing him to fight his way back up into second place.

Canadian Audi driver Jerimy Daniel finished third close to 28 seconds behind the race winner and was closely followed by fellow Audi driver JT Coupal of Compass Racing.

Danish Alfa Romeo driver Martin Jensen finished a distant fifth, 48 seconds from the race winner with Heinlein Racing Development driver Anthony Geraci in sixth. Michael Hurczyn was the top Volkswagen driver in seventh position with Matt Fassnacht rounding off the top eight in his Audi RS 3 LMS for Murillo Racing.

Volkswagen driver Nate Vincent went off track on his own toward the end of the race. As he rejoined the track, the FCP Euro by HRD driver was collected by a driver from another class and spun off track again. Vincent was able to get back on track, but finished well down in 12th position.
