Rob Huff back in the CTCC this weekend with Volkswagen

Rob Huff will be back behind the wheel of a SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing Lamando GTS this weekend in Shanghai, for the opening round of the 2018 China Touring Car Championship.

Huff will join Rodolfo Avila, Zheng Zhen Dong and Yang Fan at the team, who will run the Volkswagen Lamando GTS saloon at the Shanghai International Circuit.

The 38-year-old will compete in four events of the 2018 CTCC season, racing at Shanghai this weekend, then joining the World Touring Car Cup’s supporting bill at Ningbo and Wuhan in September-October, before returning to Shanghai a week after the Macau WTCR season finale, with ‘international’ drivers only permitted to take part in four events on the eight-round CTCC calendar.

“It’s great to be back racing in the CTCC and with the SAIC VW333 Racing guys,” said Huff. “We had a fantastic run last year to win the manufacturers’ title, and also made brilliant steps forward with the car. By the end of last season, the SAIC Volkswagen Lamando GTS was almost unbeatable, and the aim is to make it even better this year.

“I can’t win this championship as I can only do half a season, so my goal is to work with 333 Racing and their technical partners Teamwork Motorsport to help develop the car and coach their drivers, as they have new guys in the team this year as well as experienced race winners.

“The goal is to help the team to win both the manufacturers’ and drivers’ titles in Shanghai this year. The CTCC is a tough championship that keeps going from strength to strength, and it works out with my WTCR – World Touring Car Cup programme nicely.”
