Jessica Bäckman looking to build more experience before next STCC round

Jessica Bäckman’s second race at Knutstorp was curtailed after an incident at the start, when her WestCoast Racing Volkswagen came together with the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR of Oskar Krüger, as they both spun around the LMS Racing Cupra of Olli Kangas.

The 20-year-old is hoping to make the most of her second TCR UK series outing this weekend to be ready when the STCC heads to Anderstorp next month.

“It was difficult at the start, as I had a really good start but my brother in front of me had a bad start, and I had nowhere to go,” said Bäckman to TouringCarTimes. “I was going to go on the outside, but there was already a car there, and we just crashed.”

Bäckman was able to continue on after turning her Golf GTI TCR around, but was then forced to retire with an electrical issue.

“I’m looking forward to the next races,” she said. “It’s going good to get some more driving experience before the next STCC race at Anderstorp.”
