Zheng Zhen Dong takes light-to-flag victory in Zhuhai Race 2

Zheng Zhen Dong won the second race of the weekend of the China Touring Car Championship at the Zhuhai International Circuit, leading the race from start to finish in his SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing Lamando GTS.

Zheng was drawn on the reversed grid pole after Race 1, with the top 12 cars reversed for the race.

Zheng held on to the lead at the start, with the two Senovas of brothers Juan Carlos Zhu and David Zhu following behind.

David Zhu was passed by Jim Ka To’s Kia on lap six as well and Rodolfo Avila’s Volkswagen, just as he was also forced to serve a drive-through penalty for an assessed jump start.

SAIC VW333 Racing then soon ran into some drama, as both Cai Yue and then Rodolfo Avila stopped on track with technical issues, while Zheng continued to lead up front, though his lead was slowly coming down, with Juan Carlos Zhu closing to within a second.

Andy Yan was the top running of the Changan Ford FRD Team drivers, but was passed by both Jason Zhang’s Kia and Ford team-mate Martin Cao with two laps to go.

Zheng held on to win the race from Zhu by just over half a second, with Jim Ka To completing the podium for the Dongfeng Kia Racing team.

Zhang finished fourth ahead of the Fords of Cao and Yan, with yesterday’s race winner Leo Yi Hong Li making his way from 12th to seventh in the race in his Kia.

The Ford Focus of Rainey He, the Kia of Martin Xie and the Senova of David Zhu completed the top ten.

The next round of the CTCC takes place at the Guangdong International Circuit on June 2nd-3rd.
