Yann Ehrlacher says Pepe Oriola braked too early in Race 2 contact

Münnich Motorsport’s Yann Ehrlacher hopes for no penalty after contact with Pepe Oriola’s Campos Cupra on lap 12 of Race 2 at Zandvoort, saying the Spaniard braked too early which caused the contact which saw Oriola’s Cupra unsettled and drop out of third.

Oriola was defending throughout the race to keep Ehrlacher’s Honda Civic behind, with everything coming to a head on lap 12, when he made a run at Scheivlak and ran into the rear of Oriola’s Cupra, which made him run wide through the corner and allowed Ehrlacher through up the inside into third, with Oriola going onto finish fourth.

“I want to see the point of view of the stewards, but they don’t want to have boring races,” said Ehrlacher to TouringCarTimes.

“He braked really early and I ended up having a little contact with him, but it’s part of the show. He gave it back to me though at the next corner. I was much faster than him, but at Zandvoort it was very difficult to overtake here. It’s about touching but not touching, and don’t think or hope I won’t be penalised for this.“
