Luigi Ferrara extends championship lead at Misano

Luigi Ferrara came away from Misano with a pole position, a win in the first race and a second place in Race 2, scoring some 36 points that helped him extend his lead in the championship. Speaking after the second heat, the V-Action driver said his Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR was competitive at the beginning of the race.

“The race was hard-fought up to the last yard,” said the driver from Apulia to TouringCarTimes. “With the Balance of Performance we have at the moment all of us are competitive, so it was really difficult. At the beginning of the race I had a bit more performance than the others, but towards the end the others came back. I did take some risks, but I finally thought about the points and settled for second.”

Ferrara now holds an advantage of 24.5 points in the championship from his closest competitors, Salvatore Tavano and Matteo Greco, who share a Cupra. Ferrara thinks he can continue this form as long as the Balance of Performance measures remain the same.

“I hope the BoP will always be reasonable as this is, which wasn’t the case at Paul Ricard where the top two (Hyundai drivers Nicola Baldan and Eric Scalvini) were on another planet. Both during the races and in qualifying we were all within tenths off each other, so it proves the BoP is right and we can also put on a good show for the spectators.”

Austrian driver Jürgen Schmarl jumped up to third in the championship, 37 points off the lead, followed by Andrea Larini in his Pit Lane Competizioni Cupra, a further 5 points adrift.
