Colin Turkington: We have to work harder than ever

Colin Turkington insists that Team BMW will have to keep working ‘harder than ever’ to retain the lead in the BTCC standings.

The Northern Irishman hit the front in the championship race with a strong weekend at Oulton Park, where he secured his first victory of the 2018 season.

Turkington now carries the lead into a circuit where he has been strong in the past, with no fewer than a dozen race victories and more than 20 podiums during his career to date.

Despite that impressive record however, the 36-year-old admitted he wasn’t resting on his laurels and would continue to push hard to maintain his advantage.

“What was good enough last time out, won’t be good enough next time out,” he said. “We must keep pushing and hunting out performance. We need to work harder than ever.

“My record there is the strongest of any driver but I won’t be resting on those laurels. It’s crucial to push on and return this weekend with the same potent hunger that got me my first ever BTCC podium there in 2002.

“We’ll be carrying maximum success ballast for qualifying and race one but I’ll be going there with the same mentality and desire. The BMW carried it incredibly well at Oulton Park in the third race and it was a good test for us to get the set-up right this weekend.”
