Johan Kristoffersson hopes tyre issues from last year don’t recur

KMS’s Johan Kristoffersson starts third on the grid for the first race today, and the 2012 champion is mindful of the tyre issues that plagued last year’s races as the Falkenberg circuit.

With Falkenberg being little more than a clockwise wonky oval track, tyre pressures are key, though all drivers had an unexpected opportunity to save their slick tyres from qualifying after a late shower.

Kristoffersson was initially quick in the wet, but a later run by PWR Racing’s Robert Dahlgren put his main title rival on pole for Race 1, with Kristoffersson having to settle for third.

“I was happy with the car, I was happy with the performance, but we just timed it a little bit wrong with the tyres. It was the wrong set at the right time,” said Kristoffersson to TouringCarTimes.

“Here, it’s first very important to get a good start, and we need to make sure that all the teams have got around the puncture problems that we had here last season,” he added.

“Last year we had problems not just due to tyre wear, but also the structure of the tyre, the side wall, broke. So hopefully that doesn’t happen again this year.”
