Stefano Comini says Autodis THX is “getting there” with the Honda

Autodis Racing by THX driver Stefano Comini says both he and the Belgian team are now able to extract the best out of the Honda Civic Type R FK8 after a promising TCR Europe weekend at the Hungaroring.

The double TCR International series champion, who made his debut in the Honda at the previous round at Spa, charged through the field in both races in Hungary after a gearbox problem left him 23rd on the grid.

“I had two very good races this weekend but I have to say a big thanks to the THX team for their work,” Comini told TouringCarTimes.

Comini had been fighting for fourth place in Saturday’s wet race, but the Swiss driver was hit by the Target Competition Hyundai of Reece Barr as the Irishman tried to overtake Mikel Azcona’s Cupra on the last lap.

That dropped him to eighth in the final standings. He repeated this result in the dry second race but admitted the opening encounter left him more satisfied.

“I think the first race was more fun, even though I lost places on the final lap,” Comini said.

“I made so much ground during the race, I love the wet conditions and feel really comfortable driving when it’s wet. So that was the most satisfying race. For sure Race 2 was great but it was so difficult in the heat. I think we are now getting to know this car much more now.”

Comini had previously run the Subaru WRX STi TCR at Paul Ricard before making the switch to Honda.

He feels that the team is now in a position to regularly fight for podiums in the second half of the season.

“This is a new project for us as a team and we are still working to get the maximum out of the car. It’s not been easy but we are now getting there. Assen should be a good track for us and I am going to be aiming for a podium at the very least.”
